What to do to reduce the discomfort after having new fillings:
Pay attention not to burn or bite yourself before the effect of the anesthesia is completely gone.
Avoid chewing on the filling side especially hard things for at least the first 24 hours.
Avoid very hot or cold things for one to two weeks to reduce tooth sensitivity. This sensitivity to heat and cold reduces gradually but can last up to 3 months.
What to expect:
When we work on your tooth to do a filling we irritate it and create inflammation. To reduce the resulting discomforts take anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil.
Sometimes when you’re too frozen it can be difficult to properly adjust the tooth. If you feel a discomfort when you bite because your tooth is too high, come back for a small adjustment.
If the pain continues after 3 months, or increases instead of decreasing, there is a risk of needing a root canal treatment.
